Day 3 of the American Film Market (AFM) at the Fabulous Fairmont Century Plaza Hotel & "The Tenth Planet – The Red Sister" starring two-time Oscar winner Kevin Spacey!

It has been a real pleasure having AFM at the Fabulous Fairmont Century Plaza Hotel, in Century City, as it is only 2 blocks from Beverly Hills, and only a short distance from Hollywood, and Burbank, and also convenient to get to most of the major studios, and companies in the movie and film industry. On day 3 AFM Sessions’ panels brought together thought leaders to discuss Writing, Filmmaking, Location Incentives, and discuss topics such as new models of financing, AI, as well as the arthouse and horror genres.

On day 3 it was announced at AFM that film production wrapped in the UK on sci-fi thriller The Tenth Planet – The Red Sister, starring two-time Oscar winner Kevin Spacey. The project is on sale at this week’s American Film Market, marking another step in Spacey’s return into the industry fold!

We were very lucky a few times to meet Kevin Spacey at the Oscar’s official after-party: The Governors Ball, right on the same dates when he won a total of 2 Oscars! He was so kind and gave us a lot of his time each time we met him! Kevin Spacey Fowler is an American actor, producer, director, screenwriter, and singer. He started his career in the 1980s as a stage actor, and has won two Academy Awards, a Tony Award, a Golden Globe, and a BAFTA. He’s known for his roles in The Usual Suspects (1995), American Beauty (1999), and the Netflix series House of Cards (2013–2016). Over his decade-spanning career, Spacey has won two Academy Awards, a Tony Award, a BAFTA Award, and a Golden Globe Award. He was nominated for a Grammy Award as well as twelve Primetime Emmy Awards. He received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1999, and was named an honorary Commander and Knight Commander of the Order of the British Empire in 2010 and 2015, respectively. He won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role as a crippled conman Roger “Verbal” Kint in the crime thriller The Usual Suspects (1995) and the Academy Award for Best Actor for playing Lester Burnham, a man going through a midlife crisis in the drama American Beauty (1999).

Also starring in the film: The Tenth Planet – The Red Sister are Ben Miles (The Crown), Joe Anderson (The Last Front) and Antonia Campbell-Hughes (It Is in Us All) alongside newcomers Serrana Su-Ling Bliss and Lily Curley. The producing team includes The King’s Speech executive producer and Moon co-producer Mark Foligno.

Set across two timelines, the synopsis reads: “12,800 years ago, a young girl named Anna stands at the threshold of destiny as a mysterious red planet looms behind the moon. Ancient rituals and celestial alignments mark the beginning of a cycle that will echo through time. In the present day, humanity teeters on the edge of collapse. Amid global pandemics and unrest, psychologist Dr David Harper (Spacey) races to support 16-year-old Anna Collins, whose extraordinary visions hold the key to humanity’s salvation. Pursued by the dark forces of Planet X, led by the malevolent Cullen (Miles), Greaves (Anderson) an ex MI-5 agent must help Harper navigate a web of deception, spiritual awakening, and cosmic peril.” Above is a first look image from the project.

The film is directed by Matthew Philip Cannon from a screenplay by Greg Daniels, Gareth Pritchard and Paul Gerstenberger. Shot on location across Snowdonia in Wales, and Leicestershire and Birmingham in England, the film is produced by Foligno, Jo Stanhope and Glen Kirby. Executive producer is Michael Ryan. The filmmakers are handling sales at AFM. A sales company has yet to be attached.

Director Cannon describes the film as “a fusion of ancient myth and modern science, a story that explores what enlightenment means in an age of chaos, loss, and rediscovery. It’s both a human drama and a cosmic mystery.”

Producer Mark Foligno added: “This film combines scale, intelligence, and deep emotion. With Matt’s vision and this incredible cast, we’re creating an elevated sci-fi experience with real human depth, the kind of story that resonates with audiences worldwide.”

Spacey’s industry comeback remains on the fringes but his projects are gradually picking up in status. Upcoming he has thriller The Awakening, starring Alice Eve and Peter Stormare, and he recently directed feature Holiguards, in which he stars with Dolph Lundgren, Brianna Hildebrand, Tyrese Gibson and Eric Roberts.
