The Charmaine Blake 96th Academy Awards Dinner Gala in Beverly Hills views Oppenheimer get 13 Nominations and Win 7, including Best Picture, Best Director: Christopher Nolan, and Best Actor: Cillian Murphy:

and Best Supporting Actor: Robert Downey Jr.  – – ->>

Christopher Nolan’s sweeping epic about J. Robert Oppenheimer — the American physicist credited with being the “father of the atomic bomb” dominated the night! Robert Downey Jr. won the first Academy Award in his 40-plus-year career, nabbing the Best Supporting Actor Oscar for his role as Lewis Strauss in Oppenheimer.  All of us watching during this Oscar viewing dinner loved it:Poor Things star Emma Stone — won the Oscar for Best Actress, and tears were in her eyes when she gave her emotional acceptance speech:  and thanked the former Best Actress recipients who introduced her:  Michelle Yeoh, Sally Field, Jennifer Lawrence, Charlize Theron and Jessica Lange.

Ryan Gosling’s Oscar-nominated Barbie song didn’t win — the trophy went to the other Oscar-nominated Barbie song (“What Was I Made For?” by Billie Eilish and Finneas O’Connell) — but his live performance brought the house down at the Dolby Theatre! He wore a pink suit and gloves in what appeared to be an homage to the 1953 Marilyn Monroe classic Gentleman Prefer Blondes. And an army of other Kens joined Gosling, as did Barbie director Greta Gerwig, co-stars America Ferrera and Margot Robbie — and even Rock Legend Slash!  Robert Downey Jr., Christopher Nolan, and Cillian Murphy all won their first-ever Oscar, Poor Things took home four awards, including Emma Stone’s second win for Best Actress. Winning the Best Original Song, made Billie Eilish the youngest person to have won two Academy Awards! Margie & Steve really enjoyed this year’s Oscars:

Alexander Payne’s The Holdovers tells the story of a strict classics teacher working at his alma mater who gets stuck chaperoning the kids who can’t go home for winter break. Paul Giamatti, Da’Vine Joy Randolph and Dominic Sessa star in this heartwarming holiday film. Yorgos Lanthimos’ Frankenstein-esque comedy follows a young woman who, after being resurrected by a mad scientist, ventures out into the world to explore. Emma Stone, Mark Ruffalo, Willem Dafoe and Ramy Youssef star in Poor Things, which received 11 nominations for the 2024 Oscars, and took home four awards: Best Actress (Emma Stone), Makeup & Hairstyling, Production and Costume Design.

A Black writer struggling to get his books published sends his editor a new draft mocking the stereotypical “Black books” he’s so fed up with, only to find massive commercial success through his joke-gone-wrong. Jeffrey Wright stars alongside Tracee Ellis Ross, Issa Rae and Sterling K. Brown in American Fiction, which took home the Oscar for Adapted Screenplay at the 2024 Oscars, and Jeffrey Wright won the Best Actor Trophy at The 39th Film Independent Spirit Awards.

The Last Repair Shop took home the award for Best Documentary Short at this year’s Oscars, and Wes Anderson’s latest wonder adapts Roald Dahl’s short story about a gambler who develops a convenient skill: the ability to cheat at cards. Benedict Cumberbatch stars in this quirky short film, which took home the Oscar for Best Live Action Short.
