An Indian Accent Q & A at IFFLA

Day 2 of the Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles saw the screening of ” An Indian Accent” at the LA Regal Live Cinemas. The event was extremely special because of the presence of the Legendary Tabla Maestro Ustad Zakir Hussain, and Zane Dalal, the Associate Music Director of the Symphony Orchestra of India ( SOI ) .

The beautifully made documentary, produced by the National Center of the Performing Arts and directed by Sumantara Ghosal , chronicles their collaboration within the SOI on Ustad Zakir Hussain’s composition Peshkar, a brilliant orchestra concerto led by Hussain on his signature instrument, the tabla .

Following the film, there was an illuminating discussion with Ustad Zakir Hussain and Zane Dalal as they recounted their work on Peshkar , along with moments of their journey with SOI and their illustrious careers. The discussion was moderated by Dr. Vinod Venkataraman, Professor of Applied Mathematics and Artistic Director at the Music Circle, Los Angeles.
