In this TV segment Margie and Renee interview Tommy Wiseau: who is an actor, writer, director and filmmaker, who produced, directed, and starred in the 2003 cult film The Room, and in the 2017 film adaptation of The Disaster Artist, the award winning actor – James Franco- portrays Wiseau. Wiseau approved of the choice, as well as that of Dave Franco(James’s brother) playing Disaster Artist author and his real life friend Greg Sestero. The Disaster Artist is a 2017 American biographical comedy-drama film produced and directed by James Franco. Written by Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber, the film is based on Greg Sestero and Tom Bissell’s non-fiction book of the same name, and chronicles the making of Tommy Wiseau’s 2003 The Room, widely considered one of the worst films ever made. The film stars brothers James and Dave Franco as Wiseau and Sestero, respectively, alongside a supporting cast featuring Seth Rogen (who also produced), Alison Brie, Ari Graynor, Josh Hutcherson, Zac Efron, Megan Mullally, Jason Mantzoukas, Sharon Stone, Melanie Griffith, Hannibal Buress and Jacki Weaver. Greg Sestero appears as an assistant casting director, while Tommy Wiseau appears in a post-credits scene. 

The Disaster Artist received positive reviews from critics, with James Franco’s portrayal of Wiseau as well as the film’s humor and screenplay receiving praise, and was chosen by the National Board of Review as one of the top ten films of 2017.

Franco also received a nomination for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role at the 24th Screen Actors Guild Awards, on January 21, 2018, that our news team covered.

It was Nominated by The Writers Guild of America Awards on February 11, 2018, for Best Adapted Screenplay by Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber, that our news team covered.

The Disaster Artist was Nominated for Best Comedy, and for Best Adapted Screenplay by Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber, and James Franco was nominated for Best Actor; and won Best Actor in a Comedy at The Critics’ Choice Movie Awards on January 11, 2018, that our news team covered.

James was Nominated for Best Male Lead at The Independent Spirit Awards on March 3, 2018, that our news team covered.

It was Nominated for The USC Scripter Awards for The Best Screenplay by Scott Neustadter, Michael H. Weber, Greg Sestero and Tom Bissell on February 10, 2018, that our news team covered.
